If you’re looking for the perfect vehicle for adventure, your first thoughts are likely some type of Jeep model. However, for most Ventura drivers – when they think of pickup truck – Jeep is probably not on the list of potential options. Jeep didn’t have a hat in the ring for discussion of best compact to mid-size pickup truck – or any pickup truck at all for that matter – until the Jeep Gladiator hit the scene. These unconventional pickup trucks are giving the perennial contenders a run for their money, as demonstrated in this Gladiator vs. Colorado comparison.
The Gladiator is the perfect blend of a Wrangler and a pickup truck. The Gladiator, while sporting a nice-sized bed, also gives Oxnard drivers the opportunity to remove the roof and door panels, giving way to the open-air freedom that you won’t find with the Colorado or any other pickup truck on the market. The Gladiator blends the workhorse performance of a pickup truck with the design and prowess of an offroad vehicle – and the perfect option for the outdoor type.
The Gladiator comes with a meaty 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine that delivers 285 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque. If you’re looking for something to really blow you away, the Gladiator also offers the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6, which yields 260 HP and an impressive 442 lb-ft of torque. The Colorado checks in with a 237-horsepower output, powered by a 2.7L Turbo 4-cylinder motor. The Gladiator takes not only the win in power but also versatility, as the Colorado fails to offer a diesel performance configuration.
The interior specs of the Gladiator and Colorado aren’t far apart. However, taller passengers will likely find themselves more comfortable in the Gladiator. Both models accommodate seating for five, but the Gladiator has a little more room to stretch out. Overall, the Gladiator yields more headroom in the front and rear, along with more rear legroom, making it easy on the front driver and passenger – even if you have the roof attached.
The Colorado puts forth a valiant effort to keep up with the Gladiator in terms of offroad worthiness – but the Gladiator is just too stacked when it comes to hitting the trail. With an extra 10 inches of ground clearance over the 7.9 inches of the Colorado and a seven-slot grille, the Trail-Rated Gladiator will have no problem water fording, in addition to delivering advanced traction and maneuverability. The Gladiator also features additional components to help you adapt to any terrain you encounter – things like rock rails, locking differentials, and other high-performance adoptions are a sight for sore eyes if you’re an off-roader. The Colorado has the potential to be a monster on the trail – although you’ll need to scale the trim ladder to the upgraded versions of the Chevrolet model.
If you’re a Goleta driver who is serious about securing a vehicle that dominates off-road territory and doubles as a more-than-capable work pickup truck with plenty of bed space, the unique Gladiator is made for you.
